Jul 22, 2025 Improving Care for School-Age Children With Diabetes

nurse testing a child with diabetes

It’s critical to ensure that all children with diabetes, one of the most common chronic diseases of childhood, receive optimal care while at school. School nurses and educators should have an excellent understanding of the role diet and exercise play in maintaining good glycemic control and be familiar with current technologies children might be using to manage diabetes. In addition, they must be familiar with the signs and symptoms of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, as well as initial treatments for each.

To support school staff and help ensure that local children have access during the day to the help they need to maintain good glycemic control, the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology, a part of the Children’s Health network of RWJBarnabas Health, will present an educational symposium for school nurses and educators on October 16, 202.CME credits/contact hours will be awarded to those attending, participating and meeting the requirements of completion for this course.
