Tinton Falls, N.J. – August 8, 2025 – Monmouth Medical Center recently invited local area mayors for a “hard hat tour” of the Specialty and Cancer Care Center currently under construction at the Vogel Medical Campus in Tinton Falls.
Attendees included Kara Kopach, Executive director of Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) and her leadership team, as well as the three FMERA mayors, Anthony Talerico of Eatontown, Tom Tvrdik of Oceanport, and Risa Clay of Tinton Falls. The group was joined by Charlie Terefenko, Business Administrator for Tinton Falls.
“We are so excited to share the incredible progress being made on our Specialty and Cancer Care Center with our FMERA partners,” said Eric Carney, President and Chief Executive Officer of Monmouth Medical Center and its Southern Campus in Lakewood. “The level of care and caring of our clinical teams, paired with advanced technology, will transform cancer care for our community. It will be an extraordinary facility to receive the outstanding care our hospital is known for and our patients deserve.”
In 2023, MMC broke ground on the five-story, 150,000-square-foot Specialty and Cancer Care Center, which will provide comprehensive same-day surgery, on-site specialty physician offices and advanced diagnostic imaging. Patients will have access to innovative treatment options, including precision medicine, cellular therapies, clinical trials and care informed by the latest research, all in one convenient location.
The Specialty and Cancer Care Center is part of the transformative investment in oncology by RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute, the state’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. Other components include the new Jack & Sheryl Morris Cancer Center in New Brunswick and the Melchiorre Cancer Center at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, which will open in the Fall.
Participating in the tour to provide insight into the comprehensive and cutting-edge care and technology that will be offered at the center were MMC’s Chair of Surgery, Dr. Dmitry Oleynikov and Chair of Radiation Oncology Dr. Mitchell Weiss, along with Dr. Seth Cohen, Southern Region Director of Oncology Services for RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute.
“It is critical that cancer patients receive the best care possible close to home,” Dr. Cohen said. “RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute are at the forefront of cancer research and care, and now, the transformational discoveries, clinical practice, services and support we’re known for will be available for patients right here in their community.”
MMC expects to formally welcome patients to receive care at the facility in early 2027. To learn more and follow the center’ construction journey, visit rwjbh.org/vmc.
