(New Brunswick, NJ) – Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) has been recognized by the New Jersey Governor’s Department of Veterans Affairs with the “We Value Our Veterans” Award for its commitment to Veterans causes and support of Veterans within its 5,200-member workforce.
RWJUH Director of Diversity and Inclusion Edward House accepted the award from New Jersey Lt. Governor Tahesha L. Way, Esq. and Brigadier General Lisa J. Hou, D.O. at a special Veteran’s Day ceremony held at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Holmdel last Saturday, November 11.
The "We Value Our Veterans" Award gives counties, municipalities, businesses, and academic institutions across New Jersey the opportunity to value and honor the sacrifices, patriotism, and bravery displayed by men and women who have worn the military uniform. RWJUH is one of only three recipients in the business/employer category statewide to receive the award.
“We are honored that the New Jersey Governor’s Office of Veterans Affairs has recognized our organization’s commitment to employees who have served our country and Veterans causes,” said RWJUH President Alan Lee. “We’re proud that many Veterans work in departments throughout our hospital and our health system. They are leaders, problem-solvers and committed team members who do whatever it takes to provide exceptional care to our patients.”
To receive the award, RWJUH completed a thorough application process that weighs a broad range of criteria demonstrating an organization’s commitment to its Veterans and Veterans causes as a whole.
Employers are awarded points for specific initiatives such as providing veteran-only parking, recognizing Veteran-owned businesses, honoring Veterans on Memorial Day, Veteran’s Day, and other holidays, volunteering at Veteran-related and community-based events and any additional unique programs offered by an organization to support employees who served.
“RWJUH is proud that we have a diverse workforce which represents the communities we serve,” said RWJUH Director of Diversity and Inclusion Edward House. “Veterans are an important part of our RWJUH Team. They bring unique experience and leadership skills to our organization that help us deliver exceptional care and make our patients’ experience the best that it can be.”
RWJUH has an active VETS (Veterans Engaging through Service) Business Resource Group (BRG). There are seven BRGs, also known as employee resource groups, affinity groups, or employee networks are groups of employees who join together in their workplace based on shared characteristics or life experiences. In general, BRGs provide support for fellow colleagues, foster career development, and contribute to cultural sensitivity in the work environment.
