Jun 22, 2023 Grilling and Camp Fire Safety Tips

It’s Summer! And that means outdoor grilling, bar-b-ques and campfires. The team at The Burn Center at Cooperman Barnabas shares these following tips to keep you and your family safe!

  • Consider your surroundings when setting up a grill, campfire or fire pit. Keep away from low hanging tree branches and be sure to clear away any debris that could easily catch fire.
  • Keep children and pets at least three feet away from any fire source.
  • Have a pail of sand or water near-by to smother flames or coals. When discarding hot coals, stir to be sure they are extinguished, then discard appropriately.
  • When using a charcoal grill, allow lighter fluid a few minutes it to soak in before striking a match. Never add starter fluid to an existing fire.
  • For propane grills, follow manufacture instructions for proper hook-up, operation and storage. Turn off the grill and tank when finished cooking. Store propane tanks in a well-ventilated area.
  • Use long-handled tools and oven-safe mitts for all outdoor cooking.
