National Disability Independence Day

National Disability Independence Day, celebrated annually on July 26, commemorates the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the U.S. law prohibiting discrimination against those with disabilities. Signed on July 26, 1990, the ADA provides protection from employment discrimination as well as better access to goods, services and communications for people with disabilities. It guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in public accommodations, employment, transportation, state and local government services and telecommunication. To learn more about what the ADA protects, watch a helpful video from The Diversity Movement.
