Jersey City, NJ – If you are a professional in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, consider volunteering as a judge for the STEM Showcase sponsored again this year by Jersey City Medical Center and RWJBarnabas Health.
Through this prestigious program, a 65-year standard-bearer in New Jersey’s educational landscape, local students present independent or team research to STEM professionals, allowing for a meaningful exchange of ideas and to receive feedback and guidance from those working in fields to which the students aspire.
While the COVID-19 pandemic and its echoing effects have placed a hold the program’s traditional in-person event, the virtual format provides an uninterrupted opportunity for students to present their research to a broad section of experienced STEM professionals.
Students compete for medals, awards, scholarships and the opportunity to represent Hudson County at either the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair or the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge.
Highlights of participation include:
- An opportunity to volunteer approximately four hours over a period of ten days in March 2023 to review, evaluate and score research plans and project videos online.
- Assignment to a specific grade level or category judging team, in consultation with an experienced team captain as needed.
- Connecting with team members at the end of the review period to determine student finalists.
To be a judge, for students grades 5-8, individuals must have the minimum of a bachelor’s degree in science, math, technology, engineering or education. To participate as a judge for high school students, individuals must have earned an advanced degree or have significant commensurate professional experience in one of the 21 categories. Judges may not have an affiliation with any student participating in the STEM Showcase.
Apply for consideration to serve as a judge. Applications must be received by February 15, 2023.
