On Friday, April 21, 2023, Monmouth Medical Center‘s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Community Health & Social Impact Departments, in partnership with Brookdale Community College and Rev. Lesly Devereaux of Trinity AME Church in Long Branch, brought a day of empowerment to 25 young women at Long Branch High School. The girls created vision boards, heard a keynote talk, “Safety Tips in Social Settings,” by Sgt. Kim Leavy, Long Branch Police and attended workshops on nutrition, coping skills, self-identity, and careers in nursing from experts from MMC, LiveWellCenter and Long Branch Public Schools. Students also learned about education grants available from Brookdale Community College. This is the second time this event has been held; the last event was held in 2019.
