April 26, 2022 (Hoboken, NJ)Jersey City Medical Center (JCMC), an affiliate of RWJBarnabas Health, the leading academic health system in New Jersey, is partnering with the Hoboken Community Center (HCC), a nonprofit organization that provides essential services and spaces to support the well-being of the Hoboken, NJ community, to provide mental-health services to the 96 single men living in the HCC’s affordable housing program free of charge.

“The JCMC behavioral health program is a welcome addition to the services available to residents of the Hoboken Community Center's Affordable Housing program,” said Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla. “Through this new partnership, the Hoboken Community Center will be equipped to help care for their residents’ physical, emotional, and mental health. The HCC’s Affordable Housing program is an integral part of the affordable housing available in the City of Hoboken and I am pleased to recognize JCMC's contribution to the wellbeing of our community."

“As a leading provider of health care services for Hudson County, we are proud of our commitment to healing, enhancing and investing in Hudson County, which includes our partnership with Hoboken Community Center,” said Michael Prilutsky, President and Chief Executive Officer of Jersey City Medical Center. “Helping to meet the behavioral health needs of the residents of Hoboken Community Center is one of many ways that Jersey City Medical Center is helping our community to achieve good health. We look forward to our long-term partnership with the Hoboken Community Center and the City of Hoboken to address all health care and wellness needs in the communities we serve, to include the social determinants of health,” Prilutsky said.

Since 1927, the community center has provided affordable housing services to low-income men, providing a lifeline to members of the Hoboken community. The addition of free mental health care will supplement the care and services the residents already receive through the HCC.

“We are thrilled to partner with JCMC to implement a community based support program with on-site services for our affordable housing program at the HCC,” said Anju Starace, member of the Board of Directors for the Hoboken Community Center.

“This is a crucial component of successful housing programs. To have the expertise of JCMC, who has designed a program to address the unique needs of our residents with tools and encouragement to achieve optimal outcomes, is a significant milestone for our organization,” Starace added.

JCMC staff will begin working with residents this week to address their individual needs.

Through the partnership, the Medical Center’s team of professionals will make available a team of mental health workers and a senior primary therapist who, working together will assist patients with direct case management, care coordination, wellness education, treatment planning, psycho-education, life skills training, individual and group therapy, clinical assessments, and group screening.
