Aug 2, 2022 Tony Cava Named SCBP's 2022 Citizen of the Year

The Somerset County Business Partnership (SCBP) has announced that Tony Cava, MS, RPH, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset, has been selected at the 2022 Citizen of the Year.

Cava will be honored at the 2022 Annual Meeting, the most important annual gathering of the Somerset County business community, scheduled for Monday, December 12, 2022 at the Palace at Somerset Park, 333 Davidson Avenue in Somerset, New Jersey. The day's celebration will begin with a networking reception at 11:30 A.M. followed by the luncheon at 12:15 P.M.

Cava has more than 35 years in health care administration, having joined the hospital in 2015. During his tenure at RWJUH Somerset, he oversaw renovations that modernized nearly every part of the hospital campus, including a three-year cardiology renovation and expansion project, a new Same Day Surgery Center; a new Rehabilitation Services Department and renovations to the Maternity Pavilion, Radiology Department and Behavioral Health Unit. Renovations are currently under way on the hospital's Eating Disorders Unit. Additionally, RWJUH Somerset became the first in New Jersey to offer primary care services to the LGBTQ+ community when it opened its Babs Siperstein PROUD Center in 2017.

Putting patient safety at the forefront, the hospital achieved seven consecutive "A" Patient Safety Score ratings from the Leapfrog Group and earned Healthgrades 2021 Patient Safety Excellence Award, ranking in the top 5% in the nation for patient safety. In 2021, the hospital received its third consecutive designation as a Magnet hospital for nursing excellence by the American Nursing Credentialing Center.

The SCBP Annual Meeting attracts more than 500 people from the private and public sectors who gather to mingle while enjoying the food and ambience that make The Palace one of the area's top venues for celebrations.

Business Partnership leadership will tell the story of Somerset County's rise in economic prominence and the efforts to reclaim that status coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the SCBP will recognize the 2022 Outstanding Citizen of the Year and the Economic Vitality Award recipients while setting the stage for the Business Partnership's next year.

"The Business Partnership Annual Meeting is Somerset County's largest and most influential gathering of the business community. It provides the opportunity for leaders from the public, private, and non-profit sectors to come together to support the Business Partnership's ongoing effort to make Somerset County New Jersey's best place to live, work, play and visit," commented Business Partnership President/CEO Chris Edwards.

Also to be recognized at the Annual Meeting will be the recipients of the 2022 Economic Vitality Awards. The announcement of the recipients is expected to be made in late August.
