Vocera Ease also helps doctors post patient status to those off-site
Trinitas Regional Medical Center announced today that it has deployed the Vocera Ease application designed to enhance the patient experience by providing a secure platform for family updates during the surgical process. With the cloud-based customizable application, nurses and other health care professionals can easily send secure texts, photos and video updates to a patient’s loved ones. Designated family members and friends can respond to the updates with emojis for immediate feedback.
“As we learned the hard way during the course of the pandemic, the separation between patients and their family members is uncomfortable at best and downright awful at worst,” says Hisham Santiago, Administrative Director of Perioperative Services. “By implementing this technology, we have the opportunity to connect family members to their loved ones during the surgical experience. The anxiety and worry associated with waiting and wondering can be both crippling and consuming. No one wants to sit in a waiting room while their imaginations run wild and not everyone has the luxury of taking a day off or accompanying their loved one to the hospital. Using the Ease application, we can provide information in real time about a patient’s well-being. We can send a brief video update of the surgical experience and a picture of their family member smiling post-surgery. As members of the Trinitas Perioperative team, we understand the stress of not knowing and having to wait for an update. One of our goals is to provide an optimal experience for both the patient and the family. Vocera Ease allows us to do this.”
Vocera Ease provides a quick way for the perioperative department to monitor patient and family satisfaction. Recipients of updates are selected by the patient, and the app is free. Whether they are in the waiting room, at work, or across the country, the perioperative team can share important information in real time. Within 60 seconds after being viewed, the sent messages disappear, and nothing is saved on their mobile devices. Secure, video messaging can also be supported by the app, to help minimize wondering and worrying by loved ones.
