Nov 24, 2021 Steeplechase Cancer Center Adds Lee Gerson, MD as Thoracic Surgeon

The Steeplechase Cancer Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, announces the addition of Lee Gerson, MD as Thoracic Surgeon. Together with Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the state’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Steeplechase Cancer Center offers the most advanced approaches to cancer treatment with dynamic teams of cancer care specialists and researchers.

Dr. Gerson specializes in minimally invasive surgical techniques, such as robot-assisted thoracic surgery and video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS), for the treatment of lung cancer as well as chest wall tumors, mediastinal diseases, and esophageal cancer. He also concentrates in benign esophageal conditions such as reflux, hiatal hernias, and achalasia; thoracic outlet syndrome; pectus excavatum and paralysis and eventration of the diaphragm. Dr. Gerson will also serve as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Rutgers- Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

After receiving his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA, Dr. Gerson completed his residency in general surgery at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, NJ. He then pursued a fellowship in thoracic & cardiovascular surgery at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, IL.
