Jun 16, 2021 Jersey City Medical Center Opens New Center for Multidisciplinary Cancer Care

Construction made possible in part by a $1 million philanthropic gift from the Madeline Fiadini LoRe Foundation

Jersey City—June 16—Continuing significant investments and enhancements in health care for residents of the communities it serves, Jersey City Medical Center (JCMC), an RWJBarnabas Health facility, today opened a new center that expands the hospital’s delivery of multidisciplinary, comprehensive cancer care — close to home in Hudson County. The facility’s opening is possible in large part thanks to the philanthropic generosity of the Madeline Fiadini LoRe Foundation for Cancer Prevention.

Hospital and health system leadership, medical staff, and employees joined elected officials, donors, patients, and corporate and community partners at a ribbon-cutting event at the Madeline Fiadini LoRe Foundation Infusion Center, located at 414 Grand Street in Colony Plaza.

“This new infusion center provides community residents with convenient and unparalleled access to outstanding cancer care, right here in Jersey City,” stated Michael Prilutsky, president and CEO of JCMC. “We would like to thank the Madeline Fiadini LoRe Foundation for the vision and generosity that made this Infusion Center possible.”

The new facility greatly expands JCMC’s multidisciplinary cancer care footprint. In partnership with Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the state’s only National Cancer Institute designated-Comprehensive Cancer Center, Jersey City Medical Center provides patients with advanced cancer treatment options, including clinical trials, complex surgical procedures, and sophisticated radiation therapy techniques.

“As New Jersey’s only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, we provide a multidisciplinary, integrated approach to cancer care throughout the state,” said Steven K. Libutti, MD, Senior Vice President of Oncology Services, RWJBarnabas Health and Director of Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. “The new Madeline Fiadini LoRe Foundation Infusion Center provides residents of Hudson County and surrounding communities with access to advanced treatment options and world-class cancer care without having to travel far from home.”

Patients and their loved ones need not travel over the river to receive the latest advancements and world-class cancer care. The infusion center is easily accessible by car, bus, and Jersey City’s light rail transit system.

The new infusion center features eight infusion bays and two private rooms, along with amenities such as support services, specially trained nurses and staff, nearby physicians and wall art representing the Hudson County community. The facility will support infusion services that include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormone therapy, blood transfusion, and non-chemotherapy. Cancer care is provided by medical oncologists, surgical oncologists and radiation oncologists working together with clinical trial managers, nurse navigators, certified oncology nurses, and social workers to provide improved patient outcomes and experiences.

“As a three-time cancer survivor, I am determined that all patients in this community seeking cancer treatment have access to the best possible care,” said Madeline Fiadini LoRe, the MFL Foundation’s Chairperson and President. “Patients will have access to their own private space to receive their infusions, so they can be comfortable if they feel sick, or even to have someone with them to get through the treatment. To have the opportunity to expand cancer care in Hudson County is a privilege. Together with Jersey City Medical Center, we will impact the lives of all who trust us with their care.”
