Feb 10, 2021 Steeplechase Cancer Center Receives National Accreditation

The Commission on Cancer (CoC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), has granted three-year accreditation to the Steeplechase Cancer Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, an RWJBarnabas Health facility. To earn voluntary CoC accreditation, a cancer program must meet 32 CoC quality care standards, be evaluated every three years through a survey process, and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care.

Because it is a CoC-accredited cancer center, the Steeplechase Cancer Center takes a multidisciplinary approach to treating cancer as a complex group of diseases that requires consultation among surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists, and other cancer specialists.

“Our team approach truly sets us apart,” said Kathleen Toomey, MD, medical director, Steeplechase Cancer Center. “The collaborative efforts of our medical experts result in improved patient outcomes.”

“Accreditation by the Commission on Cancer assures our community that they have access to the highest quality cancer care close to home,” said Deirdre Blaus, assistant vice president of cancer services, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset. “We are committed to providing comprehensive medical and support services our patients need, including cancer prevention programs and screenings, advanced diagnostic and treatment options, access to the latest clinical research and survivorship programs.”
