Trinitas Regional Medical Center offers a screening program to help identify lung cancer in its early stages. The low-dose, non-invasive CT scan takes about 30 seconds to complete before the test is reviewed by a board certified radiologist, a report is written and the results are sent to your doctor.
Gary S. Horan, President & CEO, FACHE, says, “More people die of lung cancer than breast, colon and prostate cancers added together, making early detection critical. This screening is designed to save lives and we encourage qualifying patients to take advantage of this program.”
According to Lung.org, lung and bronchus cancer is responsible for the most deaths of any other cancer with 135,720 people expected to die from the disease. To put it into perspective, that is nearly three times the 53,200 deaths from colorectal cancer, the second most common cause of cancer death.
Partially based on results from a large randomized National Lung Screening Trial (NLST), indicating that low-dose CT scans reduced lung cancer mortality in high-risk individuals by up to 20 percent, the United States Preventive Services Task Force is recommending annual lung cancer screenings for more people than ever before.
