Aug 12, 2020 Steeplechase Cancer Center Now Offers 3D Breast Biopsy

The Steeplechase Cancer Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, now offers 3D-guided breast biopsy, an advanced, minimally invasive technique utilizing the Hologic® Affirm™ Prone Breast Biopsy System.

This state-of-the-art technology, which is available at the Sanofi US Breast Care Program, helps physicians localize and accurately target lesions that may be challenging to detect using conventional imaging techniques. The biopsy system has several key advantages over standard X-ray biopsy procedures, including faster targeting and fewer X-ray exposures, resulting in shorter patient procedure times and reduced radiation dose.

“The Steeplechase Cancer Center is committed to investing in the latest technologies to promote the early detection and treatment of cancer,” said Deirdre Blaus, assistant vice president of cancer services, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset. “Together with Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, we offer women in our community access to the most advanced breast care services close to home.”

In addition to 3-D guided breast biopsies, the Steeplechase Cancer Center’s comprehensive breast cancer services include 3-D mammography, breast MRI and ultrasounds, minimally invasive breast surgery, reconstructive surgery, radiation oncology, chemotherapy, lymphedema treatment, a high risk screening program, a second opinion program, genetic counseling, nurse navigator services and support groups. The center offers Paxman Scalp Cooling Treatment to help prevent hair loss in patients undergoing chemotherapy. The Sanofi US Wellness Boutique also offers image recovery items, such as prosthetics, wigs, lymphedema sleeves and bathing suits and lingerie especially designed for women who have had a mastectomy.
