As virus slows, workers remove the triage tent that was positioned outside the Trinitas ER since early March

Trinitas Regional Medical Center has removed the emergency triage tent that was erected outside the Emergency Room to treat possible surges of Coronavirus patients.

“We set up the tent seven weeks ago out of an abundance of caution,” explained Gary S. Horan, President & CEO of Trinitas. “Thankfully, we only had to use the extra space infrequently.”

The triage tent was used just a few times to help decompress the Emergency Department during periods of heavy patient volume, and it has not seen any use at all in the last few weeks. “Our Emergency Department was able to treat larger numbers without relying on that extra space. Now that our numbers of Covid patients are consistently dropping, we can safely remove the tent and reclaim the sidewalk in front of our ER.”

Mr. Horan added that the tent can be reassembled quickly if it’s needed at some point in the future.

The number of Covid-19 patients within the walls of Trinitas is likewise dropping, according to Mr. Horan. The Medical Center’s staff successfully treated and discharged more than 600 Covid patients since March 1.

The tent’s removal has brought a very positive reaction. “It’s been a fixture at Trinitas for nearly two months, and now that it’s gone people are feeling more upbeat that the worst of this virus is behind us,” Mr. Horan stated.
