May 22, 2019 Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Unveils Neurocritical Care Unit

(New Brunswick, NJ)— Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH), an RWJBarnabas Health Facility, unveiled its state-of-the-art Neurocritical Care Unit during a special dedication program on May 20.

The new unit features the most advanced technology designed specifically for the care of critically ill and injured neurology and neurosurgery patients. The unit will also feature one of the most advanced neuroimaging and multimodality monitoring systems in the nation.

The 15,000 square-foot unit includes:

  • 15 high-tech patient rooms designed to meet the demand of the critically ill that are double in size from previous rooms
  • Individual rooms equipped with moveable power columns, computers, lifts and dialysis connections
  • A dedicated freestanding CT-Scanner located centrally within the unit
  • A unit design that incorporates full glass throughout to provide unobstructed views and optimize continuous monitoring
  • Dedicated spaces for family members designed to provide quiet and de-stressing environments

Additionally, clinicians will have access to Moberg CNS neuromonitoring technology, the most advanced monitoring system of its kind designed specifically to address the needs of critically ill neuro patients. The Moberg CNS Monitor is a neuro-focused patient monitor that supports interoperability with multiple external devices. It supports clinicians by:

  • Assisting in the prevention, early detection, and treatment of secondary neuronal injury
  • Revealing changes in intracranial dynamics
  • Supporting immediate intervention with integrated displays at the bedside or remotely
  • Guiding decisions about intensity and duration of therapy
  • Facilitating effective charting with simultaneous backwards review during acquisition
  • Supporting nursing education with animated tutorials
  • Supporting specific clinical needs with customized protocols and displays
