May 29, 2018 Cutting Calories - Surviving Buffets and BBQs

With overeating on the rise throughout the world, and so many discrepancies as to which “diet” will provide optimal weight loss, we will share 5 sure-fire tips to cut calories at buffets and barbecues. The tips are courtesy of Ace’s January 2018 Fitness Journal:

As the weather starts to get warmer, we will likely find ourselves at parties that involve different spreads of all different kinds of foods – many of which are tempting but unhealthy. Try these tips at the next barbecue or buffet-style outing to guarantee a mostly healthy plate.

  1. Buffets can be overwhelming, because we feel the need to select multiple foods. Instead of trying everything, opt for only the foods you truly enjoy, and stick to small servings.
  2. Fill at least half your plate with any combination of vegetables, fruits, and leafy salads. Always put the dressing on the side.
  3. Skip any cream-based foods and foods drenched in sauce.
  4. Mentally commit to making and eating just one decent-sized plate of food.
  5. Eat slowly. Chew fully and be mindful of the food, savoring each bite. Eat your meal with water, not soda or juice.
