An Update in Return to Play for Athletes with COVID-19

RWJBarnabas Health (RWJBH) collaborated with the Athletic Trainers Society of New Jersey (ATSNJ) to offer updates on Covid-19 and the athlete. The Sports Cardiology team at RWJBH including Co-Directors of Sports Cardiology, Dr. Jeff Lander, and Dr. Anthony Altobelli spoke with over 100 athletic trainers across the state of New Jersey regarding the latest recommendations. Dr. Lander is the President of the NJ Chapter of the American College of Cardiology and consulting cardiologist for Rutgers University athletics as well as team cardiologist for Seton Hall University and Co-Medical Director of the Cardiac Care Unit for Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. Dr. Altobelli is Chief of the Cardiovascular and Hypertension Division of the Medical Service at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital as well as consulting cardiologist for Rutgers University athletics and Princeton University athletics.

Dr. Krystofiak, Medical Director of Sports Medicine for the Barnabas Health Ambulatory Care Center and Medical Director of the Matthew J. Morahan III Health Assessment Center for athletes at RWJBarnabas Health also provided updated guidelines related to safety precautions, masking and the latest return to play guidelines for competition.
