Occupational and physical therapists Alexandria and Melanie were instrumental in helping Matthew reach his goals, including standing and walking.
Seven years ago, Matthew embarked on his recovery journey with Children's Specialized Hospital (CSH) after an accident resulting in a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and spinal cord injury (SCI). After his accident, Matthew was completely paralyzed.
He was a patient at Children's Specialized Hospital’s Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey twice in the past 7 years to receive comprehensive inpatient therapy. During his first stay, Matthew gained movement in his arms, allowing him to use his laptop and play video games. Before returning to CSH for a second stay, Matthew continued working hard with his outpatient multidisciplinary team. Once he returned to CSH's inpatient facility, Matthew was able to start working on standing on his own. Occupational and physical therapists Alexandria and Melanie were instrumental in helping Matthew reach his goals, including standing and walking.
From appointments with Dr. Yalamanchi and Dr. Aronsky to the expert team of nurses, therapists, and more, Matthew's parents, Oscar and Sonia, expressed how they felt supported every step of the way.
