Last night, everything changed in an instant. I suddenly felt dizzy, my left side became weak, and I couldn’t speak. I knew something was very wrong. My daughter immediately called 911, and within minutes, EMS had me on the way to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center.
From the moment I arrived in the emergency department, everything moved fast. The stroke team was ready. There was no delay, no hesitation, just action. They quickly identified that I was having a stroke caused by a blocked blood vessel in my brain. Dr. Siddhart Mehta, was called in overnight and arrived right away. He explained everything clearly and calmly to my family, which meant so much in such a scary moment. Within minutes, he performed a procedure through a small incision in my leg to remove the clot and restore blood flow to my brain, all while I was awake.
By the next morning, I was back to normal. I truly believe that the speed, coordination, and expertise of Dr. Mehta and the entire stroke team saved my life and prevented permanent disability. Beyond his skill, what stood out most was how down-to-earth, respectful, and present he was with me and my family every step of the way. I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Mehta and the team at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. Because of them, I get to go home as myself.
