Application Requirements

Dear Applicant,

We would like to thank you for your interest in the Newark Beth Israel (Jersey City) Internal Medicine Residency Program here at Jersey City Medical Center located in Jersey City, NJ. We are an ACGME and AOA dually accredited program with a total of 51 residents. For 2021 academic year the Department of medicine has allotted 18 positions. Please read below for our application criteria and answers to frequently asked questions.

2020 - 2021 Academic Year Application Criteria

Application Deadline

All applications for consideration must be completed in ERAS and received by December 16, 2020.

We accept EAD and will sponsor J-1 visas only.

ECFMG Certification

We do require ECFMG certification by the end of the interview season if you are not currently a medical student.

We do not have absolute minimum requirements for board scores. However, we prefer scores of 222 on both Step 1 and Step 2 (first attempt), and a CS pass on the first attempt. This is a very important requirement, as the CS is a tool by which communication is gauged and Medicine is a field in which good communication skills are paramount. We have seen a strong correlation between scores and clinical performance in our program. We do reserve the right to waive this requirement on a case by case basis, especially if Internal Medicine core rotations were successfully completed here.

Graduation Cut off

We do have a medical school graduation cut off of on or after January 1, 2015.

Letters of Recommendation

We require a minimum of 3 Letters of Recommendation (LORs) and a MSPE, all of which are due before December 16, 2019.
