Attn: Mercer County Athletic Trainers (MCATS)! Welcome back after hopefully what was a fantastic summer. We are kicking things off this year on Tuesday September 17th. As always, expect a 1 hour interactive educational workshop as well as some time for fellowship, conversation, and a bite to eat! Summary

  • Licensed athletic trainers attending this Mercer County Athletic Trainer (MCAT) ShopTalk will learn the recent updated NJSIAA/New Jersey Wrestling Coaches Association guidelines for certifying the minimum weight classification at which a wrestler may compete. Athletic Trainers who cover schools with wrestling will be involved with this new mandate that goes into effect officially in 2020. In this workshop, Jesse and Tiffany will review the current process still in effect this coming wrestling season and will instruct attendees on the new standards and procedures for using the A Mode Ultrasound Device.
    • NOTE: If you already have the new A Mode Ultrasound device and a laptop, please bring those with you to help aide in the learning experience.

Core Objectives

  • To review an overview of current NJSIAA Wrestling Weight Cert processes.
  • To understand and implement the new NJSIAA Wrestling Weight certification process using an A Mode Ultrasound device (BodyMetrix).
  • To learn and demonstrate proper use of an A Mode Ultrasound device in order to compute body composition for athletes.
  • To learn and demonstrate how to navigate the Body Metrix website and how to input BodyMetrix data into the track wrestling program.

Bios

  • Jesse Totoro and Tiffany Strauss are both licensed, certified athletic trainers who work full time in the secondary school setting. Both Jesse and Tiffany have become certified instructors in the new Weight Certification guidelines. Jesse is the Head Athletic Trainer at Burlington City High School. He graduated in 2012 from Rowan University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Athletic Training. Jesse then went on to receive his Masters of Science in Athletic Training in 2015 from Ohio University where he served as the Graduate Assistant athletic trainer at Alexander High School. Jesse has provided athletic training services to many events in the Tri-State Area that include the Rugby 7s Tournament in Philadelphia, Carpenter Cup, Beat the Streets Wrestling Tournaments and Nike Baseball Camps. Tiffany is the Head Athletic Trainer at Robbinsville School District, and has been an AT since 2001 when she graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree from Kean University. Prior to Robbinsville, Tiff was an AT at The Peddie School from 2001-2005. She is also an American College of Surgeons Stop the Bleed Instructor
