Professional RN Residency Program – According to the American Nurses Credentialing Center(ANCC), the RN Residency program is a “planned comprehensive program through which currently licensed registered nurses with less than 12 months experience can acquire the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors to deliver safe, quality care that meets defined (organizational or professional society) standards of practice”(ANCC, 2014). The Professional RN Residency is a phased program designed to retain, support and professionally develop newly licensed nurses during their first 9 months post-licensure. The focus in the first 6 months is on clinical skills. The last 3 months is focused on mentorship and socialization. The overall goal is to provide the clinical and professional foundation to be successful in today’s health care environment Program prerequisites include: • Graduation within the last six months from a BSN program accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) with a minimum GPA of 3.0. • Possession of American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Certification • RN offered and accepted a full-time position. This is the nurse’s first paid position as a licensed RN.
