The Susan Fischer Burn Peer Support Group meets at Saint Barnabas Medical Center on a monthly basis, usually the fourth Thursday of the month from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. This support group is for burn survivors and their families as they adjust to their new lives.
Participants include inpatients as well as patients that have been discharged from the hospital. All burn patients and their families are encouraged to participate. The group is run by the Burn Center social worker and occupational therapist with the participation our SOAR (Survivors Offering Assistance in Recovery) volunteers who are burn survivors themselves. Our SOAR volunteers have all participated in the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors peer supporter training program to enable them to provide personal support as our patients recover from traumatic injury.
