The Susan Fischer Burn Peer Support Group (Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center)

The Susan Fischer Burn Peer Support Group is a meeting place and supportive network for burn patients and their families. It typically meets the fourth Thursday of each month.

Participants include inpatients as well as patients that have been discharged from the hospital. All burn patients and their families are encouraged to participate. The group, provided by The Burn Center, is run by a physical or occupational therapist with the participation of SOAR (Survivors Offering Assistance in Recovery) volunteers who are burn survivors themselves. Our SOAR volunteers have all participated in the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors peer supporter training program to enable them to provide personal support as our patients recover from traumatic injury.
