Director of Thoracic Surgical Services, RWJBarnabas Health
Section Chief of Thoracic Surgery, Saint Barnabas Medical Center

Subroto Paul, MD, MPH, a fellowship trained, board certified Thoracic Surgeon, recently joined The Department of Surgery at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. He specializes in the surgical treatment of lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies.

As a surgeon that embraces the multi-disciplinary approach to cancer care, Dr. Paul strives to carefully explain all diagnostic and therapeutic options available. In that way, his patient gets involved in their own care to help ensure that they receive the most advanced care possible. He will work collaboratively with the members of the oncology team including medical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and radiation oncologists.

Before joining Saint Barnabas, Dr. Paul served as Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery and an Attending Surgeon in the Division of Thoracic Surgery at the New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He also held a secondary appointment in the Department of Health Policy and Research.

Dr. Paul received his undergraduate education from Yale University. He then earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and stayed in Boston to complete both his General Surgery residency and Thoracic Surgery fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate. He has also completed a Master of Public Health from Columbia University.

Dr. Paul is rated as one of New York Magazine’s Best Doctors and has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles in thoracic surgery. Dr. Paul is interested in the minimally invasive treatment of both malignant and benign thoracic disorders.
