    Lowell E. Gurey, MD is a board certified otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeon and a fellowship-trained laryngologist. He completed his otolaryngology- head and neck surgery residency at the Albany Medical Center followed by fellowship training in laryngology/neurolaryngology at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Medical Center in NYC (now part of Mt. Sinai) under the direction of Drs. Andrew Blitzer and Lucian Sulica. He has subspecialty training regarding the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the voice, swallowing, and upper airway. He sees patients at the Summit Medical Group- Berkeley Heights and Florham Park campuses.

    Clinical Interests

    Scope of his practice includes treatment of:

    -benign epithelial lesions of the larynx causing hoarseness such as nodules, cysts, polyps, scar

    -care of the professional/performing voice

    -in-office treatment for vocal cord paralysis, vocal cord atrophy

    -laryngeal framework surgery

    -laryngeal manifestations of neurologic disease such as spasmodic dysphonia, essential tremor, Parkinson's disease, ALS

    -laser treatment to address cancer of the vocal cords

    -laryngeal manifestations of gastroesophageal reflux (also known as laryngopharyngeal reflux)

    -chronic cough, throat clearing, mucous sensation

    -foreign body sensation in the throat (also known as globus sensation)

    -recurrent respiratory papillomatosis

    -upper airway obstruction, tracheal/subglottic stenosis

    -transnasal esophagoscopy (TNE)

    -swallowing dysfunction
