Dr. Peck is a first-generation college graduate and double board-certified surgeon in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. While completing his Master of Clinical and Translational Science (MSCTS) in conjunction with his 2-year New Jersey Alliance for Clinical and Translational Science (NJACTS) Career Development Award, Dr. Peck is the 2021 to 2023 KL2 Junior Faculty Scholar supported by the National Center for Advancing Translational Science (NCATS) funded Rutgers Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Hub. His research focuses on multi-level etiologic factors of digestive disease requiring emergency forms of surgery associated with preventable mortality.

Dr. Peck will start in July 2023 a PA-20-205 K23 Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). The K23 is a grant awarded on average to less than two surgeons in the US annually. Dr. Peck is also currently pursuing a NIDDK Loan Repayment Program (LRP) for Clinical Researchers from Disadvantaged Backgrounds.

    Philosophy of Care:

While Dr. Peck has spent his career treating patients with emergency disease requiring surgery, his more recent trajectory focuses on preventing the need for surgery in the first place, through innovative understanding of the etiology of emergency surgical disease. Through his NIH funded program of clinical epidemiologic research, Dr. Peck hopes to identify the biological, psychological, and social factors of decreasing the health care utilization and mortality in the total population served with digestive disease, irrespective of sexuality, origin, race/ethnicity, or socioeconomic status.
