May 12, 2023 RWJUH Somerset Honors Piscataway Nurse as Magnet Nurse of the Year

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, honored Maisy Koshy, BSN, RN, CCRN, of Piscataway, as its Magnet Nurse of the Year. The award was presented during the hospital’s annual Nurse Excellence and Scholarship Awards Program held during National Nurses Week.

Koshy is a nurse in the hospital’s Post Anesthesia Care Unit. During her 39-year tenure at the hospital, she has also worked in the hospital’s Critical Care and Medical/Surgical units.

She was nominated as Nurse of the Year for her compassion and empathy, effective communication with patients and colleagues and dedication to ongoing nursing education and professional development.

“Maisy is an outstanding nurse who provides exemplary support of nursing services,” said Conchita Macaro, RN-BC, BSN, interim nurse manager, Post Anesthesia Care Unit. “Her dedication to patient-centered care, effective communication, collaboration and ongoing education makes her an asset to RWJBarnabas Health. Maisy’s commitment to excellence sets a high standard for all nurses and her contributions to nursing are an inspiration to us all.”

In addition, the hospital recognized its 2022-2023 Nurse Residency Program graduates: Emily Demouth, BSN, RN, Endoscopy; Alexandria Friar, BSN, RN, 2-East Cardiac Pavilion; Amanda Rodriguez, BSN, RN, Critical Care; and Stephen Valvano, BSN, RN, Emergency Department.

RWJUH Somerset has earned Magnet® recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center – the nation’s most prestigious nursing honor – three times.
