West Orange, NJ, January 24, 2023 — RWJBarnabas Health, the largest, most comprehensive academic health care system in New Jersey, has been recognized by Newsweek as one of “America’s Greatest Workplaces 2023 for Diversity.” RWJBarnabas Health is one of 1,000 companies in the United States to earn the designation.
“It is an incredible honor to be recognized by Newsweek for creating a workplace where all employees feel valued and respected,” said Mark E. Manigan, President and Chief Executive Officer, RWJBarnabas Health. “For the past several years, RWJBarnabas Health has become a national leader as we have worked towards diversity, equity and inclusion across our entire workforce. We recognize that diversity of our workforce is not only important to us as an organization, but essential for the overall health of our patients and surrounding communities.”
In 2016, RWJBarnabas Health established the Corporate Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to expand diversity and inclusion strategies and embrace the range of experiences, perspectives and ideas of all the system’s employees. Since then, RWJBarnabas Health has increased diversity of the system’s leadership team, increased cultural competence training, and have established employee-led groups based on shared characteristics and/or life experiences to provide support to fellow colleagues, foster career development and contribute to cultural sensitivity in the work environment.
“RWJBarnabas Health is committed to treating everyone with respect and dignity while appreciating and embracing the differences and similarities that exist among our workforce and we thank Newsweek for recognizing that commitment,” said Trina Parks, DHA, FACHE, Executive Vice President, Chief Corporate Diversity and Inclusion Officer, RWJBarnabas Health. “We are dedicated to continuing to evolve and adapt to our communities’ diverse and changing needs to ensure that we are culturally responsive to our employees and our patients.”
Newsweek partnered with market data research firm, Plant-A Insights Group, to profile the top 1,000 companies that not only celebrate diversity but implement policies that cultivate an inclusive workplace. Scoring is based on a large-scale employee study that reviewed publicly available data, interviews with Human Resources professionals and an anonymous online survey of a diverse pool of employees. Respondents were asked questions about corporate culture, working environment and other subjects at both their own companies and others they were familiar with. The survey yielded more than 350,000 company reviews.
