RWJBarnabas Health, New Jersey's most comprehensive academic health system, salutes philanthropists James and Sharon Maida for their commitment and dedication to the communities of New Jersey.
In 2016 James and Sharon Maida helped establish the first Maida Geriatrics Institute at RWJBarnabas Health's Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, New Jersey.
The Maida Geriatrics Institute was designed to provide integrated inpatient and outpatient services for patients 65 and older. Geriatricians and support staff are specially trained and have a full understanding of the wide range of physical, mental, medical, social, and spiritual issues that older adults can face without interfering with their independence.
The family also supported the creation of Maida Geriatrics Institutes at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton. The next Maida Geriatrics Institute is planned for Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.
