Joy Bauer, nutrition and healthy lifestyle expert for NBC’s Today Show and #1 New York Times bestselling author, will headline Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset’s virtual Breast Cancer Awareness Month event “Food Remedies to Fight Breast Cancer” on Tuesday, Oct. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. The free event is presented in collaboration with Friends Health Connection. The program will feature a delicious cooking demonstration sprinkled with lots of manageable nutrition tips from Bauer, including ideas for meals to help decrease your cancer risk, boost your energy and help you live longer and stronger.

Deborah Lue, MD, a breast surgeon with the RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group and medical director of breast cancer services at RWJUH Somerset’s Steeplechase Cancer Center, will provide more information about breast cancer prevention strategies, including a healthy diet, as well as discuss risk factors for breast cancer, causes, signs and symptoms, diagnostic tools and advanced treatment options. She will also offer an overview of the High Risk Breast Cancer Program at RWJUH Somerset’s Steeplechase Cancer Center.

Bauer recently launched her own Amazon Live show, “Health, Happiness, Joy,” where she answers viewers’ questions in real-time, cooks up mouthwatering recipes and shares her favorite products. In addition, she is the official nutritionist for the New York City Ballet and the creator of JoyBauer.com. An accomplished author, Bauer has written 14 bestsellers; her latest book is Joy Bauer’s Superfood! 150 Recipes For Eternal Youth.

Bauer previously served as the Director of Nutrition and Fitness for the Department of Pediatric Cardiology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, as well as the clinical dietitian for their neurosurgical team.
