Nov 12, 2021 Saint Barnabas Medical Center Receives Reaccreditation by the College of American Pathologists

The Saint Barnabas Medical Center (SBMC) Laboratory has recently been reaccredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). This reaccreditation includes the medical center’s main laboratory and pulmonary laboratory. The CAP Laboratory Accreditation helps laboratories maintain accuracy of test results, ensure accurate patient diagnosis and meet required standards from CLIA, FDA and OSHA.

“The SBMC Laboratory is continuously adapting to the rapidly evolving changes in laboratory medicine and technology, reinforcing patient care and safety,” says Michael Dardik, MD, Chair, Department of Pathology, SBMC. “This reaccreditation is a direct reflection of the hard work of our staff and everything they do on behalf of our patients.”

The Department of Pathology at Saint Barnabas Medical Center has a diversity of diagnostic services. Board-certified pathologists render tissue diagnoses and supervise diagnostic testing of blood, urine, and body fluids by highly trained technical personnel. Among the sophisticated equipment used are automated electronic blood cell counters, blood chemistry analyzers and an array of platforms for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19).

As an extension of Saint Barnabas Medical Center’s Laboratory Services, SBMC has four convenient outpatient laboratories located in Livingston, Caldwell and Roseland. Staffed by trained phlebotomists, they provide drawing services to patients of any age, pediatrics to seniors.
