Mar 1, 2021 Post-COVID Exercise Program Launched

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset has launched a new Post-COVID Exercise Program to help individuals who have had COVID-19 to improve their strength and breathing and return to their pre-COVID health status.

The exercise program, which is supervised by an exercise physiologist, comprises two 1-hour sessions per week at the hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Department in Hillsborough.

“COVID-19 can have long-lasting impacts on an individuals’ lung and heart functions. Even people who have had mild symptoms from COVID-19 may experience shortness of breath when trying to exercise and it could take weeks or months to get back to their normal exercise routine,” says Deborah Fugaro, director of rehabilitation services at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset. “Our program begins with light workouts and gradually increases intensity as they build their stamina and regain their energy.”

The program is not covered by medical insurance. Cost is $99 per month for a total of eight sessions.

In addition to the Post-COVID Exercise Program, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset’s rehabilitation services include physical therapy at seven locations throughout Central New Jersey, occupational therapy, speech therapy, audiology services and cardiac rehabilitation.
