Alan Gordon, MDRWJBarnabas Health welcomes Alan Gordon, M.D., as the new Medical Director of the Institute for Prevention and Recovery. Building on the strong foundation of IFPR, Dr. Gordon will steer opioid crisis initiatives across the medical system, from evidence-based medication-assistance treatment (MAT) using buprenorphine to stabilize patients in the ERs, to long-term recovery programs. He also will spearhead RWJBH’s new comprehensive tobacco prevention and cessation program across all hospitals in six counties. Prior to his recent move to New Jersey, Dr. Gordon was Chief of Clinical Addiction and Rehabilitation Programs at Butler Hospital in Providence, R.I., a Brown Medical School affiliate, for more than 25 years. He brings extensive experience to his new role at IFPR in the treatment of Addictive Disorders, with a specialty interest in stabilizing patients ‘trapped’ by prescription narcotic pain medications dependency or heroin use.
