Margie Heller has recently been named Vice President of Community Health and Strategic Global Partnerships at RWJBarnabas Health. Most recently, Margie was System Administrator of Global Health at RWJBarnabas Health and Administrative Director of Community Health and Outreach at Saint Barnabas Medical Center (SBMC). Over the past few years, her focus has expanded beyond local and regional community health outreach to include an international focus as part of the RWJBH Global Health strategy. “Margie is extremely active leader in Livingston as well as many of the surrounding communities. She has dedicated her career to building stronger communities both locally and globally,” says Stephen P. Zieniewicz, FACHE, President and CEO, Saint Barnabas Medical Center.
Margie Heller established the Department of Community Health and Outreach in 2010. She is charged with the Community Health Needs Assessment and creating procedures and opportunities that bridge SBMC and identified community partners within designated service areas.
Margie is a leader in the Social Impact and Community Investment Practice, a collaborative effort among RWJBarnabas Health, facility leaders, and community stakeholders to eliminate health care disparities and address social determinants of health. One pillar of the practice is global health, which strives to help vulnerable communities across the United States and abroad. Margie works with employees, businesses, and academic partners – including Rutgers University – to address social determinants and understand the unique needs of our communities.
Margie has co-led over a dozen disaster relief missions in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic and continually collaborates with universities, international non-government organizations, and medical schools in the U.S. and abroad to address health priorities in under resourced countries. Domestically, Margie established a relationship with the Health Wagon, a nonprofit organization in southwest Virginia, to provide colon screenings to the area's medically underserved population.
Margie Heller sits on a number of boards. She has been recognized for her community service through a variety of awards including the Althea Gibson Leadership Award presented by Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. and the 2018 Civic Leader of the Year Award in Livingston. Most recently, Margie was recognized as a Woman of Vision by the Junior League of the Orange and Short Hills (JLOSH).
