"Say Yes to the Dress" Star Headlines Breast Cancer Awareness Month Event on Oct. 22

Breast cancer survivor Lori Allen, star of TLC’s “Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta,” will headline Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset’s annual breast cancer awareness month event on Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Bridgewater Manor. “Say Yes to the Cure!” is a special evening for mothers and daughters featuring dinner and a bridal fashion show. Cost is $25.

Allen is an international expert on bridal fashion, starring in the TLC’s “Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta” for ten seasons and “Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids” for four seasons. Both shows are filmed at her bridal salon in Atlanta, which has drawn brides from around the world over the past thirty years in search of the perfect wedding dress. In 2012, Allen was diagnosed with breast cancer and shared her journey in a TLC special “Say Yes to the Cure: Lori’s Fight.”

At the Oct. 22 event, she will share her inspirational story of survival and will serve as moderator for a bridal fashion show featuring breast cancer survivors. Deborah Lue, MD, FACS, breast surgeon with RWJ Physician Enterprise’s Steeplechase Breast Specialists, and Colin Failey, MD, a board-certified plastic surgeon at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset’s Steeplechase Cancer Center, will also provide information on breast cancer causes and risk factors, early detection and surgical options. A meet and greet with Allen will follow the program.
