May 31, 2018 Monmouth Medical Center Radiology Chair Named President Elect of Association of Program Directors in Radiology

Richard Ruchman MDLONG BRANCH, NJ, May 31, 2018Richard B. Ruchman, M.D., of Rumson, chairman and program director of Radiology at Monmouth Medical Center, has been named president elect of the Association of Program Directors in Radiology.

The Association of Program Directors in Radiology (APDR) is an organization of residency and fellowship program directors and coordinators with the common goal of optimizing the educational experience for resident physicians training in radiology. Through an annual meeting, periodic communications, and material on its website, APDR enhances the professional capabilities of its members, provides them with the tools necessary to comply with regulatory requirements of the Residency Review Committee and the American Board of Radiology, and facilitates effective communication with those organizations and others with common interests.

At Monmouth Medical Center, Dr. Ruchman leads Monmouth Medical Center's four-year diagnostic radiology residency program. For more than 40 years, Monmouth has been training radiologists to become skilled practitioners in the latest imaging techniques and technology.

Dr. Ruchman serves on the Board of Trustees of the Association of Program Directors in Radiology, the Monmouth Medical Center Foundation and RWJBarnabas Health. He is also a faculty advisor to the American Alliance of Academic Chief Residents in Radiology. Dr. Ruchman is a member of the ACR, the Radiological Society of New Jersey, the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Society for Nuclear Medicine, and the Association of University Radiologists.

He completed the nuclear medicine residency of the Harvard Joint Program and a radiology residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York, where he served as chief resident. He completed a body imaging fellowship at NYU Medical Center. Dr. Ruchman received his medical degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich., and graduated with distinction from Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.

In 2015, Dr. Ruchman was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Radiology (ACR), one of the highest honors the ACR can bestow on a radiologist, radiation oncologist or medical. ACR Fellows demonstrate a history of service to the College, organized radiology, teaching or research. Approximately 10 percent of ACR members achieve this distinction.
