Viktoriya “Viky” Busko, AGPCNP-BC, MSN, RN, with Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center’s Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Center, is a registered nurse with over 30 years of experience. In her current role, Viky provides patient education, showing those with Parkinson’s disease how to improve their quality of life with medication, non-drug interventions and community resources. She addresses patients’ needs and concerns in a multitude of ways through complex assessments, connecting them with multiple disciplines and offering holistic approaches.
Prior to this role, Viky spent her first 10 years as a nurse in Ukraine, where her experiences spanned a variety of specialties from the emergency room to outpatient clinics, assisting surgeons, orthopedists, ENTs and neurologists. She cared for patients at various stages of life including birth, during chronic illness, and at the end of life.
Once relocating to the United States and reestablishing her nursing license, Viky worked at Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care for 12 years. She cared for and visited terminally ill clients at 20 long-term care facilities in New Jersey. Viky was promoted to team leader and long-term care relationship manager, responsible for coordinating care for hospice patients in their homes and in facilities across three counties and managed two teams of traveling hospice staff.
In 2016, when Barnabas Hospice merged with Home Health (Jersey Care) and Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) of Central Jersey, becoming Visiting Nurse Association Health Group (VNAHG), Viky transitioned from hospice to home health. Viky worked at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center as a home care intake coordinator, facilitating patient discharges and ensuring post-operative or chronically ill patients received the appropriate care at home.
In 2017, Viky joined the Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center Comprehensive Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Center. For five years, she managed busy MS triage calls, provided MS patients with nursing advice, assisted doctors with intrathecal procedures and competed infusion orders.
Viky earned a BSN and MSN degree from Felician University, Rutherford, NJ. In addition, she successfully passed requirements for board certification in Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). During the COVID-19 pandemic, Viky gained experience with telehealth and served as a study nurse for a research project that focused on COVID-19 patients with MS or existing immunotherapies.
