In August 2020, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton created a partnership with Melissa’s Brigade, the Mercer County Division of Lisa’s Army, to bring comfort care packages to patients receiving treatment at The Cancer Center at RWJUH Hamilton.

As part of this partnership, and in line with Melissa’s Brigade mission, a formal nomination and distribution process is in place to select patients to receive the comfort care packages. When Chris Lane, RN, one of our Cancer Center nurses, learned of the new partnership, she immediately nominated her patient, Renee, to receive the first comfort care package of our partnership. When she was greeted just before her treatment appointment with a package full of comfort items to help her restore and relax, Renee said, "I am so grateful for such a wonderful and uplifting surprise!"

Renee, our inaugural comfort care package recipient, loved her surprise!

About Melissa’s Brigade
Lisa’s Army is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing comfort to courageous individuals currently undergoing cancer treatments. Melissa’s Brigade is the Mercer County, New Jersey, affiliate of Lisa’s Army, named in memory of Melissa McCormack, who was a true warrior and a tremendously compassionate individual. Immediately after receiving a Lisa’s Army Comfort Care Package, Melissa started to give back with the help of her group of friends affectionately known as The Breakfast Club. Melissa fought courageously until her passing at the end of 2019 and requested that all donations go to Lisa’s Army. Her friends did not want that to be the end of giving back; they wanted to be a part of Lisa’s Army. Together, the Breakfast Club formed Melissa’s Brigade, in memory of Melissa.
