Signs of Lung Disease

Our lungs take in the air, provide our bodies oxygen, and expel everything else in our air that we don't need. When our lungs aren't functioning properly, our activity may be limited and we may become vulnerable to other conditions, and even exposed to catastrophic health effects.

Common signs of lung disease include:

  • Chronic or dry coughing
  • Pronounced fatigue
  • Unexplained shortness of breath
  • Abnormally fast breathing (even at rest)
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Hoarseness/Wheezing
  • Coughing up blood or phlegm
  • Frequent occurrences of bronchitis and pneumonia

Lung Screening Programs

We understand that early detection gives lung disease patients the best possible chance at a full recovery. That is why we offer the Lung Cancer Screening Program. Lung cancer is a leading cause of death of both men and women in the United States as it is often detected at a late stage when treatments may not be as effective. . Early detection of lung cancer saves lives.

Adults aged 50 to 80 years who have smoked a pack a day for the last 20 years or have quit within the past 15 years should be screened for lung cancer with low-dose computed tomography (CT) every year. Most insurance plans provide coverage for these screenings, as does Medicare and Medicaid. If you believe you qualify for this screening program, our lung care professionals are ready to hear from you.

Individuals may be eligible for the screening if they meet the following criteria:

  • Age 50 to 80 years old
  • A tobacco smoking history of at least 20 pack years (Pack Years = Packs Per Day x Years Smoked)
  • A current smoker or former smoker who has quit within the last 15 years, has no symptoms of lung cancer and has not had a chest CT scan within the past 12 months
