Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center

Transforming Cancer Care and Research in New Jersey and Beyond

Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center

The Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center, scheduled to open in May 2025 in New Brunswick, is New Jersey’s first and only freestanding cancer hospital and one of an elite group of such facilities across the nation. It brings together two powerhouse institutions of medical care, education and research under one roof: RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute, the state’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Developed in partnership with the New Brunswick Development Corporation, the Morris is designed with the patient at the center – creating an exceptional patient experience, providing state-of-the-art technology and housing research laboratories and scientists. With a multitude of services in one building, the new facility will enable providers and researchers to more easily communicate, share ideas, and collaborate on cancer care and treatments — for their patients as well as the broader cancer community.

The Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center is named in recognition of the philanthropic leadership of Jack Morris, who has been a longtime supporter and pillar in New Brunswick development, and his wife, Sheryl.

Comprehensive Cancer Care and Support for Patients and Families

The 520,000 square foot, 12 story state-of-the-art Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center will provide both inpatient and outpatient care, as well as ancillary services and is designed as a model of extraordinary cancer care delivery. As the linchpin of the oncology services provided across the health system, the Morris exemplifies the exceptional, comprehensive, multidisciplinary care provided by our integrated network of nationally recognized cancer specialists.

In addition, the Morris will offer diagnostic services, oncology support services including health and wellness programs and community education all under one roof.

The building itself will be a bright, comforting space full of natural light. From the patient rooms to the treatment areas and beyond, the building’s design will promote a warm, healing environment.

Listen to clinical and administrative leaders describe this state-of-the-art cancer center and the individuals who will work inside it to transform the way we diagnose, treat and conquer cancer.

Science and Research

Advancement of medical research is a core benefit of the partnership between Rutgers Cancer Institute and RWJBarnabas Health. The Morris will have laboratory facilities to support 10 research teams, clinical trial offices and faculty offices. This will facilitate the translation of scientific findings from “bench to bedside” and back to the laboratory in an expedited manner, providing our physician-scientists with real time feedback.

Clinical cancer care and the science behind new cancer discoveries go hand-in-hand. The new building will house 10 new, high-tech research laboratories.

State-of-the-Art Technology

From diagnostic facilities to on-site laboratories, from surgical rooms to research facilities, The Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center will house state-of-the-art medical technology. Advanced radiology technology includes a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) linear accelerator, brachytherapy, mammography machines, computed tomography (CT) machines, and more. The building integrates smart technology for efficiency.

Advanced equipment and technology will be installed in the new cancer center.
