How to Become an Adult Volunteer

Volunteers apply their individual expertise and interests in many ways. Our numerous programs fit nicely with many work and school schedules. Volunteers may work directly with patients or in non-patient areas.

Adult Volunteer Service Requirements

  • Age: Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age
  • Interview: Call 973.322.5592 to set up an interview
  • Completed Application
  • Reference Check
  • State of NJ Background Check
  • Health Form: To be completed by physician
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test: Two-step test for the first year; one-step test annually thereafter. (offered at SBMC at no charge)
  • Attendance at Orientation Program: This required training covers the programs’ missions and philosophies as well as important safety and regulatory information necessary for all volunteers
  • Time Commitment: Volunteers are expected to serve a minimum of three or four hours a week for a period of not less than six months
  • Dress Code: SBMC volunteer jacket purchased by volunteer and ID name badge provided by the Medical Center.
