Kidney Transplant as a Treatment Option

Technical excellence and a genuine interest and concern for people are three of the most distinguishing characteristics that describe the staff at The Renal and Pancreas Transplant Division at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. Add clinical research and patient advocacy to the picture and you can begin to see why people prefer the premier program that has served New Jersey and out-of-state residents for more than 40 years in the field of renal transplantation. This nationally respected team of nephrologists and surgeons, working closely with experienced registered nurses, social workers and support staff, offers an increasing number of transplant opportunities for people who choose this treatment alternative, and hope to many whose medical conditions previously prevented transplantation as an option.

Transplant recipients are experiencing an improved quality of life, independent of dialysis and its restrictions, through living or deceased donor donation, simultaneous pancreas-kidney, pancreas-after-kidney transplant and pediatric kidney transplantation programs that consistently achieve outstanding success rates.

Transplant candidates meet team members and learn more about kidney transplantation at small informal educational sessions scheduled at The Renal and Pancreas Transplant Division’s satellites located in Livingston, Edison, Howell and Rutherford, New Jersey. Blending the most modern technology and resources with attentive personalized care available at one of New Jersey's leading medical institutions, The Renal and Pancreas Transplant Division at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center provides comprehensive support for patients and their families throughout the process of obtaining a transplant and maintaining a healthy kidney.

Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center offers a Bloodless Surgery Program.

The world-class Renal and Pancreas Transplant Division at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center is one of the world's most progressive transplant programs and one of the largest programs in the United States. In 2017, the Division was the 3rd largest kidney transplant program and the #1 living donor program in the country, performing 341 transplants, including 162 living donor transplants. The Transplant Division has an active Transplant Research Program and participates in clinical drug trials, investigating the most current anti-rejection medications available.
