Comprehensive Recovery Pathway for Thoracic Surgery

doctor with patientsThe Comprehensive Recovery Pathway for Thoracic Surgery was designed to empower our patients and their family members on their path to a quick recovery and optimal outcome after thoracic surgery.

The Comprehensive Recovery Pathway for Thoracic Surgery is more than a specialized surgical program within Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center; it is also comprehensive patient-centered care model for the surgical treatment of thoracic disease. What separates the Comprehensive Recovery Pathway for Thoracic Surgery from other programs is how we prepare and guide our patients and their families through the entire process of treatment from:

  • Preparation for surgery

Our team helps patients coordinate their necessary studies prior to surgery.
Our team also helps optimizes nutrition and heart and lung function prior to surgery when needed.

  • Specialized post-operative care

Patients recover in single rooms in our stepdown unit in the Cooper Family Pavilion. Families can stay with their loved ones and help them recuperate.

  • Preparation for after hospital care/discharge

Our physicians, advanced care thoracic practitioners, and physician assistants work with nurses, social workers, and care coordinators to transition patients to home after their procedures.

We understand, for most patients, coming to the Medical Center for surgery can be an anxiety-ridden process. The Comprehensive Recovery Pathway for Thoracic Surgery is designed to address each patient’s fears and concerns about his/her surgical treatment and empowers him/her with information and support in order to have the best possible outcome.
