Lung Cancer Screening Program Outcomes

The Lung Cancer Institute at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center is committed to being your partner offering education, screening, and diagnostic tools to detect and treat Lung Cancer. We are dedicated to providing quality care and achieving the highest level of patient satisfaction.

Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center has joined the International Early Lung Cancer Action Program to offer a free-life saving test to identify Lung Cancer early. The free program includes a low-dose CT screening for individuals who are at high risk for developing lung cancer.

Since this program began there has been over 1,500 individuals screened with the following outcomes:

2019

  • Initial Screens = 210 individuals
    • 1 year Follow-ups = 119 individuals
    • 2nd Year Follow-ups = 134 individuals
  • Findings: 3 lung cancers identified
    • 2 STG I
    • 1 STG II
    • 1 case pending
  • Tobacco Treatment = 113 individuals counseled
  • Program Success Rate:
    • 1 month = 40%
    • 3 month = 42%
    • 1 year = 33%
    • 2 year = 39%

2018

  • Initial Screens = 148
    • 1 Year Follow-up = 140
    • 2 Year Follow-up = 191
  • Results: 6 lung cancers identified
    • 3 STG I
    • 1 STG II
    • 1 STG III
    • 1 STG IV
    • 24 Cases Pending
  • Tobacco Treatment: 88 individuals counseled

Counseling for Nicotine Dependency was offered to 638 participants identified as current smokers and those who quit within the last year.
