Steeplechase Cancer Center Second Opinion Program for Breast Cancer Patients

A breast cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming and confusing. It is important to take time to review your options and determine the course of treatment that’s best for you.

The Steeplechase Cancer Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset offers a Second Opinion Program for Breast Cancer Patients to help you make informed decisions about your diagnosis and plan of care.

Through our Second Opinion Program, we will connect you with a breast cancer specialist at the Steeplechase Cancer Center who will:

  • Review your test results.
  • Provide an opinion about your initial diagnosis.
  • Review your treatment options, which may include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy or a combination, as well as reconstructive surgery options. You may also be eligible to participate in a clinical trial offered through our partnership with Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
  • Consult with other specialists at the Steeplechase Cancer Center as needed. These specialists may include medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, plastic surgeons, genetic counselors and patient navigators.

Why should you seek a second opinion?

  • There is uncertainty about the type or extent of your cancer
  • You are diagnosed with a rare or complex form of cancer
  • You are confused by your treatment options or want to explore additional treatment options
  • Your health insurance company or doctor recommends a second opinion
