Prospective Medical Students

Interested in rotating at The Beth? In addition to our main ER rotation, we offer electives in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, EM Ultrasound, and EMS. As our rotation availability is limited and competitive, please send any requests as soon as possible.

During your four-week rotation, you’ll do 12 total shifts, which will be composed of main ED, pediatric ED, as well as shifts in our urgent care and observation area, the RDU. The shifts are all 8 hours long. On Tuesdays, students will be attending student-based lectures given by our Student Coordinators, which will include SIM once a month. On Wednesdays, students will be attending resident conference where you will participate in lectures, discussions, and simulation labs. Weekly didactics are from 8am-1pm, located in the conference room on EL-3.

During your rotation, we encourage our student rotators to function as a sub-interns, which means your patient is your responsibility. Students can be expected to obtain a thorough history and physical, read imaging & interpret lab results, perform point of care ultrasound, do laceration repairs / reductions / dislocations, and US-guided IVs. Your four-week rotation will be as hands on as you make it. Students will be presenting to and working directly with our EM seniors and Attending Physicians who will supervise you on shift.

We feel the best way to get to know our residency, and the people within, is by rotating with us. While we are able to accommodate most rotation requests, we ask that you send a letter of interest, your CV, and board scores to Yashonda Thomas, Manager of Graduate Medical Education at Yashonda.Thomas@rwjbh.org.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to our Student Coordinators at NBIEMStudent@gmail.com or our Director of Medical Student Education, Dr. Choksi, at monicarajni.choksi@RWJBH.org.

We know that you’ll enjoy your time rotating at Newark Beth Israel. We look forward to meeting you!
