Centralized Pharmacy Warehouse

The Centralized Pharmacy Warehouse provides non-compounded products to all RWJBH hospitals. The Centralized Warehouse model allows for the procurement of bulk, reduced- cost purchases and the direct purchases of products on national shortage. Direct purchases prevents interruptions in supply chain management and patient care.

Specific products are brought into the warehouse as needed based on mitigation for future possible supply interruptions and prior to known price increases. Smart bulk purchases lead to large cost savings to the RWJBH system.

In 2021, the Centralized Warehouse continued to be crucial in support of the RWJBH hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic response. Through key partnerships and direct account setup with manufacturers and vendors, the warehouse was able to procure essential pharmaceuticals needed by the RWJBarnabas Health System. The system was able to maintain extra stock and take advantage of the warehouse space in South Plainfield.

Through these strategic purchases, the system was able to continue uninterrupted patient care to all of it’s COVID patients.

In addition to the COVID-19 related support, 2021 also saw over $9.3 million dollars worth of cost savings pharmaceutical purchases through the Centralized Warehouse. In addition to the bulk cost savings purchases, the Centralized Warehouse was able to provide another $7.4 million dollars worth of products that were not available through our wholesaler and on shortage.

For 2022, our plan is to continue expanding this model with smart cost-savings purchases that will bring tremendous overall benefit to RWJBH.
