About Our Program

The Rutgers Health Transitional Year Residency Program at Community Medical Center is an ACGME accredited PGY-1 program one year in length. This program will provide residents with a broad based, comprehensive, structured, clinical, didactic, and procedural education in both the inpatient and outpatient settings that will enable residents to become competent, proficient, and professional physicians well prepared for their PGY-2 specialty of choice.

Our main clinical site is Community Medical Center, a 592-bed fully accredited acute care hospital offering area residents world-class medical treatment with the comforts of hometown care. Opened in 1961, Community Medical Center, is now committed to high quality undergraduate and graduate medical education programs. CMC is Ocean County’s largest and most active health care facility—caring for over 28,000 inpatients, 127,700 outpatients and over 75,000 emergency department patients each year. We are one of 14 hospitals in the RWJ Barnabas Health network.

We are located in the beautiful beach town of Toms River in the heart of the Jersey Shore. A perfect balance of lifestyle and leading-edge educational opportunity.

Rutgers Health is our sponsoring GME institution and has residency programs in nearly every specialty available across 14 hospitals throughout New Jersey.
